In the last newsletter, I shared my experience with The Artists Way and how using guilt as a motivator didn’t work for me long term. If you missed the first four magical morning rituals, catch up here.
Reframing your thinking about the morning routine will transform your routines into rituals.
Especially when you move the focus from productivity to nourishment.
Let’s talk about a morning walk. In the past, I’ve planned out my route and committed to myself that I would walk a certain distance.
I force myself to get it done.
Then there is spending time in nature as a ritual. I choose where I’d like to explore and set out to notice my surroundings. When you’re present with nature, you can feel your body fall into a rhythm with the Earth. You’ll stop to notice singing birds, pick up a rock that catches your eye, or quiet your voice as you hear running water in the distance.
Remember choosing a magical practice when you need support is a small act of love for yourself.
Part Two of Magical Morning Rituals
5. Flip to a page
I think of this ritual as an oracle game—a way to get an unexpected message by chance. This ritual allows you to play with the Universe and engage with the Electric Curtain of the unseen world. If you’re here reading this, chances are you already know that the Universe loves to play with us.
Step 1: Choose a book.
Try to choose something that feels inspiring or uplifting. Check this blog post for examples of books I might use for this exercise.
Step 2: Ask the Universe or The Spirit World, “What message do I need to hear right now?”
Step 3: Close your eyes and randomly flip to a page.
Step 4: Read your message and reflect on how it resonates.
The message pictured above is from The Book of The Raven. While writing this, I tried the exercise, and the Universe winked at me with this message. For context, I’ve been questioning myself, my voice, my routines, and how fickle my ADHD brain seems. I have been keeping too busy, and it’s been harder to enjoy things. This is why I love this ritual—magic is everywhere!
6. Magical journal prompts
Journaling is a brilliant way to read yourself. It lets you connect with your desires and what you truly want. When I was journaling every day with The Artists Way pages (straight stream of consciousness), I would notice that by page three, all sorts of revelations would come through. Suddenly I’m looking down at the page, and to my surprise, I realize I don’t want the work opportunity that I thought I did, and I don’t like the fancy coffee maker I got for my Birthday—I miss the old coffee.
I looked at my wife and said, “I’m going to pass on teaching this class. I’m just too busy,” and then, “I miss the old coffee. Let's get rid of the Nespresso.” “Thank G-d,” she said, acknowledging both.
Journaling stream of consciousness can be a revolution, and I’m so glad to have the old drip coffee back. If you need inspiration or want to focus on specific aspects of your life, here are a few of my favorite journal prompts.
Magical journal prompts to start your day with intention
What permission slip can I write myself to experience my life to the fullest?
What gifts and talents do I possess that can serve others?
What kinds of stories am I telling myself? Are they helpful?
What is the most loving thing I have done for myself? What might I do in the future?
What is something only I know about myself? Would I consider sharing with someone I trust?
7. Shower Meditation to Nourish Yourself
Launching off of journal prompt number five here is something only I know about myself. Sometimes I listen to my own meditation in the shower. That’s right, my own voice, it was weird at first, but now I love it, and now I’ve shared that fact with all of you 💕
This free meditation is available here.
My work can be energetically draining, and one of my practices is filling myself up with energy. The shower meditation doesn’t require any music or guided meditation.
Stand beneath the water and set the intention to refill yourself with energy, with light. Ask The Spirit World (The Universe or any higher power) to connect with you and help you fill your energetic reserves.
As you feel the water pouring down over your scalp, picture a white or golden light entering your crown. Feel the light spreading throughout your body and soul. You are connected to the source of all love, light, and life. Love is an infinite resource, and it restores you to your most natural state.
Thank the Spirit World for supporting you, and feel grateful for the light you possess.
Go and share your light with the world.
8. Morning Tarot or Oracle Card Spread
I love Tarot and Oracle Cards. If you’re new to this practice, you can learn more about the different types of cards here.
I find tarot an excellent tool for self-reflection, especially when setting an intention for the day.
Shuffle your cards.
Ask your Intuition to guide you as you pull three cards and lay them face up before you.
Card 1: Where should I focus my intention for today?
Card 2: What supportive practice or person can I rely on for guidance?
Card 3: What does The Spirit World want me to know? (think of this as a bonus message)
With love,
Sheryl
